Kenya.

I promised photos and so now I deliver. A small selection of my Kenyan photos.

The ferry to get off the island of Mombasa in the morning to get to work.

The best part of the trip to work every day, riding on the bodaboda from the ferry to BeeHive.

Walking down to the beach with the youngest boys.

The kids at the beach after school.

Dancing down at the beach.

Helping the kids swim (and trying not to let them drown me!).

Walking back from the beach with the kids.

In the holidays the planting had to be done, crops or something, so I entertained the youngest kids (well okay! they entertained me!), because I'm more trouble then help when it comes to sharp tools.

Cutting the lawn at the school.

There was no running water to wash dishes but we got by, just. Once in a while there was electric currents running through all the metal in the kitchen due to the faulty wiring in the house. They used to give us shocks every time we touched the sink, it made washing up time fun!

On weekends we had some time off - on my first weekend we took a 2 hour bus trip to visit a maasai villiage.

On my third weekend we went on safari and saw Gilbert the giraffe.

On my fifth weekend we went up to some beach cottages and spent Easter saturday snorkling in a Marine park. We lead such a hard life.

Before we came the volunteers before us put a room together for the older boys, we (me and 3 other volunteers) continued the trend and put a room together for the girls at BeeHive - who had previously been sleeping on the floor. After I left a room was being down up for the youngest boys - now finally all the kids have beds - which is awesome.

The kids doing tribal dancing.

 Jiti.

Mariam.

Eliza.

On my last offical day the kids played a football match against another orphanage, we walked all of the way there which was a long way for the littlest ones so we took it in turns to carry the. Mariam is the cutest kid ever, I wanted to take her home with me!

Omeboi, Mr Paul's (who runs BeeHive) granddaughter.

During the rainy season the kids are couped up inside during the day and we found some interesting ways to entertain them - like teaching them the Hokie Pokie, which they loved.

I miss Mombasa so much! I want to go back, I want to be with the kids again and see the other volunteers and hang out at the icecream shop and ride the ferry to work! I'm thinking of going back and volunteering again - I'm in love with Africa.
