I haven't read a book in a couple of months. This is my Thursday night not-so-dirty-confession. I'm going to go to bed and feel guilty about not reading and then maybe play some solitaire on my ipod. I'm excited already.

Exam stress and general grumpiness have started to set in! Some inpressive door slamming just happened, even after my sister brought me lollies (lollies that if I eat today will make me through up - Wednesday is 'Eat Junk Til You Feel Sick' Day - six hours of lectures straight in the same lecture thearte does that to a girl) but mum just rang and it cheered me up, after an almost cry to her on the phone. I miss having her around, I loved to rant and rave at her about my lecturers and my assignments - she understood and was always on my side (for other reasons as well obviously!). But yeah, that was nice - parents have been in Russia for the last couple of days and head off again somewhere else in a week! And when they are out of Geneva it is hard for them to ring home - so we haven't spoken to them in a while - I miss them so much!

I booked my ticket to Eruope for November! I leave on the 25th and if I don't go to Sweden I come home on the 30th, with a week stop over in New York! If I do go to Sweden I will most likely spend a month in America in August and be home for school start in September! I'm getting really excited about Sweden, and am wishing and hoping it gets approved - I just have to start my 500 word application statment, which for someone who knows what she wants is surpisingly hard to do without sounding like a hack.

Okay Eddie is making Pad Thai which is making me happy! It smells yum! And I'm slightly more calm which is nice.  I'm going to eat.

Title: A Year in Their Courts
Fandom: Chronicles of Narnia

[personal profile] animus_wyrmis
Prompt: Hermione stumbles across a strange wardrobe in the Room of Requirement, and somehow ends up in Narnia. There, she meets a young king who makes her want to forget about her friends and old world, but is too noble to let her. Peter/Hermione
Pairings: Susan/Hermione, Peter/Hermione
Warnings: Some femmeslash.
Summary: Hermione steps into Narnia, and begins to forget--and to change, as she falls into Susan's bed and then into Peter's heart.

This is an instant rec, I just finished this and I'm in love. The author has a great style and she holds the story together so well, the charcterisations are particularly strong and the way she captures Narnia is so spot on. The Pevensie's are so distinct from each other and are elegant, regal and young. You really need to read this.

Someone please entertain me! I'm at that stage where you have just read some fantastic fic - and you need more - but there isn't any. And all you crave is THAT style of writing and THAT idea (and to a certain extent THAT pairing) and NOTHING else seems right. I was reading

[personal profile] scoradh's NextGen fic The Road Next Travelled and its unfinished sequel Three Steps Back and I want more, and I want it now. Scoradh has this amazing character building ability and I have fallen in love with her nextgen characters and the world they live in - she has other fics and I've started some and they seem really good but I'm not in the mood for H/D right now (serious slash overload - possible? appartently!).

I get like this too after finishing any of [personal profile] mad_martha's fics - she is a world creator, her insights to the characters and the details that her fics contain will just blow your mind. After finishing something like Two households or Checkmate you just don't think anything else can match up to that.

So what have I been trying to entertain myself with tonight? Reading my old favourites over at fanfiction.net - seriously!? I had a BAD taste in fics - or maybe just a williness to forgo ICness for instant thrills. I also read a HUGE amount of buffy crossovers (actually I still do now, though I am hoping my idea of a 'good' fic has improved!)

I'm also watching season two of Bones over at surfthechannel - I wanted to watched Studio 60, which I've seen up to episode 16, but they don't have a working link. Bones is a fantastic second choice.

Comment to this post with a subject for a top five (ships, songs, books, etc) you would like to see my answer. I will post my answers in a separate entry. Be as specific or as broad as you'd like.

Entertain me DAMNIT!

Warning: this post reveals a shocking truth.

I learnt a valued life lesson today, a very important one, one that all should take note of and think about avoidng in the future - maybe even pass on to the grandchildren:

boiling water to the face is about as fun as it sounds.

This was hard learnt tonight and has left (temporary) physical evidence - a reminder, I suppose, to try and avoid doing it again. The incident involved unsafe actions with a wooden spoon and some unbending spagetti, which resulted in me splashing myself in my open eye with boiling SALTY water. Yummy. My eye is fine, the skin around it is slightly red and I'll have a mark for a couple of days and a cool story to pick up chicks with.

But its not all positives! it hurt like a hurty thing until I put paw paw cream on it. and having a shower tomorrow will be painful.

Now I know that my discovery will be a SHOCKING truth and you might wish to deny it - because boiling water to the face could be the next 'cool thing' - like boom boxes and dinasours but believe - but beware! it actually isn't a good idea.
(this is an extract from my most current book in my 'boiling water: not as innocent as it looks' undercover, non-fiction 'hard truths revealed' series - a set of hardcover books that set out to inform the public that boiling water is not a play thing. the previous book is titled 'hot water bottles: steam dens of hell' and can be found all no good bookstores in your local area.)

My brain seems to have lost the little ability it had to punucate with any class at all - and maybe even write in English. Is this the result of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder? Find out in the next exciting edition!

(this post was brought to you today by the letter V, which appeared 12 times and is feeling more popular then ever.)

I have a new fandom coming on!

[profile] xanya lent me her 30 Rock dvds (I had a sudden urge to watch it Sunday morning, it was just there when I woke up!) and I spent all yesterday and most of today watching it. At first I admit, I was taken - but my twinness does have an excellent taste in tv shows (except for seinfeld, brain fart?) so I persisted and thank chocolate I did because I AM SO IN LOVE! Seriously - Tina! And Jack! And there EPIC love! and Kennith! And Tracy! And I'm just in love.

(Seriously thats all I can come up with at the moment because while 30 Rock, I was multitasking doing tags for [community profile] crack_van (which is YAY!) which was very soothing, but also leaves me feeling like my brain might be dribbling out my ears. I think I did over 400, and I have an urge to do more. This might be a slight addiction. It just all looks so NEAT! and easily accessable! And look at all the fics I haven't read!)

Okay, I might be heading off to bed. Or I might be reading 30 Rock fanfiction. Maybe.

My littlesister and her boyfriend just paid for their flights to Europe! They have their plane tickets and its KILLING ME! I want to run out tomorrow and get mine! but I can't until I talk to my advisor so I can get a confirmation that my sweden exchange is going ahead! Seriously! I'm going to cry if I don't get an email from him soon! I just want to get an appointment with him - any day of the week! any time! Seriously RESPOND TO MY EMAIL!

My favourite travel STA person is leaving as well, her last day is tomorrow and I SO wanted to book my tickets through her. She did Kenya for me and we were in the same kickboxing class.

I am so woe at the moment that I feel the need to use my Very Distressed icon.

*is late for work*

teaonthestairs: ([vm] clifttop run //)
I'm on holidays! Clinicals are over and done with! Until June/July/August that is. I was in community mental health, working close to home (which was good and bad. good because I didn't have to travel far and I knew the area, which made it less stressful. bad because I knew a couple of the clients of the clinic personally, and others I now see around, and it was harder to seperate professional from personal) and I had a really good three weeks.

Community Mental Health was so different from what I was expecting or prepared for. Our lectures in the three weeks leading up to these clinicals had focused on the experiences of working in mental healh hospitals, which is where a lot of my friends ended up but there was nothing about working in community mental health and I didn't quiet know what to expect. I was placed under a state area (there is north, west, south, east and the north eastern, north western, inner west, south eastern ect) and in a hospital in that serviced that area in an acute sense, it also coorinatored the communinty programs within that area (confused?). I was placed with seven other nursing students and we got to choose our placements - everyone else was being all hesident so I took charge (as I tend to do when being are being BORING) and battled the other confident terror-in-training over which one of us got to do CATT (crisis assesment and treatment team) which is all the high flying action stuff and CCT (continuing care team) which is about case managing people in the community. I ended up going CCT because it what I am most interested in, plus it was closer to home.

CCT was awesome and interesting but fully terrifying; I got to give injections, sit in on clinical reviews, work with nurses, doctors and social workers, write in client files and go on some home visits and visit the inpatient unit. I also spent a lot of time sitting around doing nothing, not seeing many clients, reading the same drug infomation again and again, sitting in on endless meetings about new reporting programs that were going in (they are putting it all on the computer for digital files and the concepts were harder for the non computer people to understand).

I'm typing on my laptop, which is driving me nuts because it keeps deleting what I'm writing, so I'm not going to type much more - also I'm not even sure what I want so say, the experience was full on and so much happened. Also client confidentuality.

But its over and I got awesome marks and comments, I now have down three clinical placements where I got good results and a high distinction average on exams - seriously if this does not get me a place in sweden I'm quiting uni and becoming a club singer at a sleazy place at the docklands.

Which bytheway my uni is driving me nuts - last year it was looking so easy! the international advisor had it all planned out, she was going to do it all! and she was so enthusatic about it. then she left. and now the new advisor has NO IDEA and also doesn't know how to use email, I've emailed him twice in the last two weeks and he hasn't replied. I need an apointment with him so he can give the go ahead for it all to go ahead! gah! I only have until June 30th for ALL the paperwork to be in! The closing deadline is stressing me the fuck out! I went to this uni because of the international opptunities it offered me and now its screwing me about!

Okay I have to stop thinking about this because its just pissing me off! seriously bed time - well numb3rs watching time anyway.

I'll be back in the land of the living (writing, fanning) once the heat stops killing me dead. AND THEN! You will all be made to sit nicely and listen to What Happens When You Let Rose Out On Clinicals. Just so you don't worry, as I KNOW you ALL have been doing in my time of silence, I have NOT killed a patient, got a needle stick injury, left a pair of scissors in someones abdomen or caused a cross-contamination, drug-resistant, infectious human flesh eating super bug. Everything else is fair game.

I need a nurse icon.

I am royally PISSED off with Amazon.com, I've been ordering from them for years! I've NEVER had a problem with shipping, or recieving packages - they are usually on time, or even early! I must have taken it for granted because they are driving me INSANE. Packages don't come, or turn up two weeks late, or a MONTH late - like the DVDs that arrived today. [profile] xanyahas been having problems too - it must be their international shipping. I ordered VM3 dvd's for xanya for Christmas - when they didn't arrive in their estimated arrival period I gave amazon a ring - they said they would replace the DVDs and send them on their FASTEST shipping and it would arrive in 10 days, that 10 days finish THREE WEEKS AGO! In the meantime, while waiting for the replacement to arrive I got my first order. So now I have replacement DVDs sitting on my desk and apparently I have to PAY to send them back? WHAT?! Do they refund me for that too? God this is complete crap! I'm going to be all prissy and declare that I'm never ordering from them again, because I might pay a little more somewhere else but at least the dvds ARRIVE.

Okay I'm all emotional because the packers are downstairs putting all my parents stuff in the shipping crate - they just packed up the lounge room, their bedroom, the dinning room and the kitchen table (not to mention all the stuff out in the hallway, which mum had put there from the attic, the garage, the bathroom and the kicthen cupboards). It doesn't seem real - my mum living, but it is because she doesn't have a bedroom anymore, and the loungeroom is empty except for the tv and she is living out of a suitcase! I can't beleive she leaves on Thursday. I wish I was going too, I hate being left behind - imagine! I could have packed up my room and being moving to GENEVA! But uni and everything comes first - and I'll be there next year.

I need a hug.

I found new supernatural gen!case!fic to cheer me up. You should all go look at Tassos Accidental Documentaries, a interesting read told from the perspective of a fantasticaly written OC (don't run! it's worth it), that is a great look at teenager!dean and teenager!sam starting a new school. Summary: As Class Historian, Antonia is determined to make the best high school documentary her senior year that anyone has ever seen, but the first few weeks of school bring more to light than she ever expected when a freshman girl goes missing, the new kid Dean takes an interest, and old traumas may be the key to the present.

[livejournal.com profile] sam_storytelleris writing Torchwood fanfic. If this is not the best thing to happen since easter chocolate - I don't know what is. Because he is writing Torchwood fic. And writing it in a way that when I read it I can't breathe anymore. BECAUSE ITS PERFECT! Like perfect in a way that when you start reading it  you think 'this is brilliant!' and then it ends and IT'S BEYOND BRILLIANT. ITS LIKE MAGIC AND PUPPIES AND PERFECT THINGS THAT ARE AWESOME? Yeah? His Torchwood is like that! Because I seriously was NOT BREATHING at the end of them because breathing is distracting and I wanted to take it all in. He wrote my Torchwood, one that makes all the random bits from the show MAKE SENSE! because this fits*.

So go read! even if you have only seen an AD for Torchwood GO READ! because these fics really do make the day MORE awesome.

(I've only linked two here, but he has written a couple of others INCLUDING AN AWESOME MULTICHAPTERED DW/TW XOVER!)

(bothe fics contain spoilers for 2.07)

A Man Not Alone
Spoilers: Through 2.07, Dead Man Walking
Summary: Ianto Jones knows why Jack is Torchwood's leader. Jack knows what Ianto Jones will be.

The Rules of Torchwood Three
Spoilers: Through 2.07. (yes, 2.07)
Imagine, if you will, a raw recruit to Torchwood, stood purposefully in front of a large whiteboard in a corner of the Hub.

"Memorize them," Ianto tells him, claps him on the shoulder, and wanders off.

*I seriously bastardised one of my reviews just now to make this rec, because I'm recycling! because I'm EARTH CONCIOUS!.

I've discovered a way to indulge in my very random reading habits. I've been in need of a distraction lately and have been poking around yuletide, but I am so indecieve about what I want to read i just keep pressing the 'random story' link and magic! fic! I love how it dishes up the stuff I want!

Like lately I've been a bit pride and prejudice-y mood (mostly because of Prandan's fantastic stories) and random story tossed up: The End of the Honeymoon by Jane Elliot  post-book, just a brief, fluffy Darcy/Elizabeth fic.

Yesterday it gave me the most brilliant hitchhikers fic (that MUST have been recced everywhere post2003 onwards but I hadn't seen/read) The Galactic Miscellany by Rheanna. Haven't read it? YOU MUST! Have? READ IT AGAIN! It's perfect!

Anything For Family by mirkat was next, a telling of the 12 Dancing Princesses from the oldest sisters POV, fantastic vioce with a great twisting of events post-fairy tale.

unfortuantely at this point i got distracted by updates from fanfiction.net (yes, yes i know!) rali updated her Kore series (buffy/troy) and Tassos posted the last installement of the sequel of Bridges (one of the BEST Buffy crossovers on the internet) Slats: Moments in Time

Then I had to leave for work, but not before reading The Fingernail in a Ziplock Bag by [personal profile] crazywritinfoolwhich was linked on [community profile] crack_vanthis month and I've had set aside to read.

After I got home from work (taking twice as long as usual because of a paranoid fit that I didn't lock the door of work and driving BACK to check that I did (I do this about once a forenight - so, so paranoid!) and having to choose paint colours for the bathroom, which all looked excaltly the same - my mother is insane) I felt the need for some doctor who fic - so I reread [profile] cherryice's Leave The Light On and then thought about reading Worlds in Conjunction by marylane, one of my favourite DW fics, but instead got distracted by solitaire on my ipod and went to bed. Day in a life yeah?

Question: Battlestar Galactica S3 is set to be released in the US in March right? Then why is it on the shelves in Australia already? Has anyone brought the Australian version? Does it lack some things the US version has promised - like special features?

I'm conflicted whether to buy it now, or wait and order it off Amazon.
